CV Writing Advice

Your CV is your first opportunity to make an impression — and in a fast-moving industry like Food & FMCG, hiring managers often make decisions in seconds. A clear, tailored CV can make all the difference.

  • Keep it clear and simple

    • Stick to three pages maximum (unless you’re very senior).
    • Use a clean, professional layout with consistent fonts and spacing.
    • Avoid jargon, buzzwords, or overly complex language.
  • Tailor it to the role

As concise and relevant as possible. We can help you with this.

    • Match your CV to the job description — highlight the skills and experience that fit best.
    • Move the most relevant achievements higher up the page.
    • Use keywords from the advert — many employers use software that scans for them.
  • Highlight achievements, not just duties

Instead of listing responsibilities, show how you made an impact:

    • “Reduced downtime by 15% through a preventative maintenance schedule.”
    • “Led a team of 6 engineers to deliver a new product line 2 weeks ahead of schedule.”

  • Make technical skills easy to spot

Especially important in Food & FMCG engineering and technical roles. Create a short “Skills” section for software, equipment, or industry-specific expertise.

  • Don’t forget the basics

    • Avoid complex graphics
    • Double-check spelling and grammar.
    • Include your contact details clearly at the top.
    • Save and send as a PDF where possible.
